      ABOUT THE ARTIST

      George Goodnow @george.goodnow

George Goodnow is a multidisciplinary artist living in Naarm (Melbourne). Their practice incorporates painting and murals, as well as sculpture and site-specific installations. By fabricating fictional architectures and objects, or adjusting existing architectures, George investigates relationships between spaces, objects and bodies. Their work frequently explores feelings of disorientation, binaries and queerness within suburban and urban landscapes.

      ABOUT THE ARTWORK

‘Tough & Tender’ celebrates both the resilience and tenderness of the LGBTQIA+ community. These characteristics are not in binary opposition with one another, but coexist, overlap and are simultaneously significant. The painting references colours, patterns and fonts used in road and safety signage to subvert familiar city infrastructure and highlight the many ways strength and love can be expressed.

This work was created by George in response to World Pride Sydney 2023. The artist created this beautiful 2.4m x 2.4m artwork with the intention for it to be sold to raise money for charity partner Minus 18.

This artwork would look stunning in an office or home studio setting. Please email us directly to organise additional delivery or pick up options at hello@artaid.com.au.

This project is part of The Rocks and Darling Harbour Pride Art Trail.
